Diver airlifted after bends fear
The man had been diving in Strangford Lough
A diver has been airlifted from Strangford Lough in County Down to a decompression chamber because of fears he could develop the bends.
It is understood people on the dive boat became concerned after he resurfaced too quickly and needed oxygen.
A helicopter took him to the facility near Largs in Scotland. Steve Palmer from the Belfast Coastguard said it was a worthwhile precaution. “The bends can be fatal if not caught in time. This time the diver was not showing any signs of the illness, but as a precaution he was taken to the chamber,” he said
